CBD oil for pets is the latest on the world of cannabidiol, given the preclinical studies to find out if the properties of cannabidiol are also useful for conditions or diseases in pets such as dogs, cats or horses.
What is CBD oil?
Oil is one of the ways in which we can obtain cannabis, it is often much more convenient to acquire, maintain and administer.
According to a study by Harvard Medical School, there seems to be evidence that CBD is beneficial in combating chronic pain, alleviating nausea, and facilitating a good night’s sleep.
CBD Oil for Pets
Really the form of the oil for both humans and pets is the same, what really varies are the percentages of THC and CBD and in our case also the flavor.
We have several types of CBD oil for dogs, CBD oil for cats and CBD oil for horses.
How to Use CBD for Pets
Before we get into the percentages and modes of administration of cannabidiol oil, we must take into account the following points:
Geographical legality
Depending on where we are and the legislation in force in that country, we can make use of our CBD oil in one way or another. Not all countries allow the sublingual or direct use of cannabidiol oil, so before using this product we must inform ourselves well of its legality. In Spain, for example, the sublingual use of the oil is not allowed, only topically it can be used.
Consult with your veterinarian
The first thing we must do is consult with the veterinarian about the possible use of CBD oil for pets, as we must take into account any treatment to which they are being subjected or know their history for pathologies.
Quantities and percentages
In addition, each person or pet is different, so we have to start with low amounts and percentages to gradually see how and what the reaction to the oil is and thus increase the amount administered.
Prevent product contamination
As in cosmetics in humans, the best thing to do is to avoid contact of the pipette with any surface, that is, that there is no direct contact between skin, animal, tongue and the pipette to prevent the product from being contaminated.
We offer salmon-flavored oils to make it as easy to administer as possible, as it is preferable that the oil is taken directly avoiding combining it with meals or treats. However, if your pet doesn’t respond well to oil administered alone, it can of course be mixed with food. We remind you again that the consumption of CBD products in Spain is not allowed.
Now that we have some clear introductory points, let’s know the exact calculation to use cannabis oil for pets in an ideal way. A maximum dose of 1 mg of CBD per kg of body weight is used. The maximum dose for a dog weighing 10 kg would be 10 mg of CBD per day.
In this way, we will start with a dose of 0.1 mg/kg every 12 hours (twice a day), being the lowest dose for a week and observe the effects. Many times, a low dose will work well. If you do not see an effect, it recommends going up to 0.25 mg/kg twice a day or going up as needed. We remind you that in Spain CBD products are for topical use.
